What is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a living beverage that is fizzy, refreshing and fermented! It is made from brewed tea and is rich in probiotics, B vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes, and healthy acids. What does all that mean? This ancient elixir can aid in digestion, strengthen the immune system, detoxify the body and promote overall gut health!

How is it made?

Morning Light Kombucha is made with organic black and green teas, organic cane sugar, filtered water and the kombucha culture, also know as a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast). The tea is fermented for several weeks, during which time the yeast and bacteria work their magic!

What are the nutritional benefits?

Kombucha is known for being a great source of probiotics (healthy bacteria) that aid in digestion and help with overall gut health. It is also loaded with vitamins, including B vitamins that can give you a nice boost of energy! Kombucha has detoxification properties that help cleanse the body, aid in liver support and support a healthy immune system.

What does it taste like?

Many say kombucha is an acquired taste due to it’s sour, tart, vinegar-like taste, but many fall in love right off the bat. It’s fizzy, tart, and low in sugar, making it a great soda substitute. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

How much sugar is in kombucha?

Here’s how it all goes down: during fermentation, the kombucha culture feeds on the sugars, consuming a significant amount and as a byproduct, CO2 and ethanol are produced. The CO2 and ethanol are then consumed by the bacteria and out of this symbiotic relationship, the healthy acids, vitamins and probiotics are produced. What is left over is typically between 4-10g of sugar/ 8 oz serving depending on the flavor.

Does it have caffeine in it?

Caffeine is another nutrient consumed during fermentation, but usually not in its entirety. So the answer is yes, but in very small amounts.

Does kombucha has alcohol in it?

Kombucha is a non-alcoholic drink. There are trace amounts of naturally occurring alcohol that are produced during the fermentation process, but the end product contains .5% or less alcohol, which is similar to the amount you would find in a cup of apple juice.

How much should I drink?

At Morning Light Kombucha, we always recommend that if you are not used to kombucha, to ease into by drinking 2-4 oz a day. As your gut becomes accustomed to it, increase consumption to a level that works with your body.

How long will my bottle last?

It just depends on the size of your bottle and how much you drink! Once opened, as long as your brew is refrigerated, we recommend consuming within a month.
